Soldiers from the Isle of Lewis and Harris were taken prisoners of war at St Valery-en-Caux on 12th June 1940. The men were serving in the Seaforth Highlanders, Ross Mountain Battery and the Cameron Highlands. The community publication Cuimhneachain St Valery Memories includes first hand accounts by some of those men and some rare photographs of camp life.
On 12th June 2020 the capture of the men at St Valery will be commemorated with pipers throughout Scotland playing the pipe tune the Heroes of St Valery. The Isle of Lewis and the Isle of Harris, pay tribute to their own heroes, in the publication St Valery Memories. It is available in our online shop for £10.00 including p&P.

Thank you for the book it arrived this morning. I have been immersed in it since opening it. It makes quite compelling reading. I am not from Lewis but my father was taken prisoner at St Valery and I am (tentatively) trying to research what happened to him. I thought your book would give some insights into pow experience – which it has!
