Hi I am Magaidh from the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. I am a native Gaelic speaker living on a croft in the Hebrides.
Six generations of my family lived on this land, so I am well rooted. A croft is a piece of land which is rented from the landowner, but crofting tenure gives the right to assign the land to the next generation.
Gaelic was the language of the close knit crofting community I grew up in. The language used as we worked the land, cut peat, planted potatoes and oats. Today some social engineering is required and that’s why Gaelic Hebrides has been set up, to share aspects of language and traditions with learners from all over the world. Failte a steach. Welcome in.
